Revive Your Smile and Restore Oral Function with Custom Crowns and Bridges

Dealing with damaged or missing teeth can have a profound impact on both your oral health and the appearance of your smile. Whether it’s the result of tooth decay, trauma, or natural wear and tear, the consequences of these issues can extend beyond mere appearance and lead to a range of functional challenges, including further dental problems, shifting of neighbouring teeth, and potential jaw joint issues. Moreover, the visible gaps in your teeth may drive unnecessary attention, making you feel uncomfortable while you smile.
At Heathcote Dental Surgery, our dental crowns and bridges offer a reliable and aesthetically pleasing solution to these problems, allowing you to enjoy restored oral function and improved smile aesthetics. Our dentists will carefully evaluate your oral health and smile goals to determine the most suitable treatment approach for your needs, helping you achieve a beautiful and functional smile that will enhance your quality of life for years to come.

Dental Crowns

Dental crowns are custom-made tooth-shaped restorations that are placed over a damaged or weakened tooth to provide protection, strength, and improved aesthetics. They encase the visible portion of the tooth above the gumline, restoring its shape, size, and function. At Heathcote Dental Surgery, we provide dental crowns to address a range of dental issues, including:

  • Protection after a root canal procedure
  • Restoration of teeth with significant decay or damage
  • Support for large fillings
  • Strengthening of fractured or cracked teeth
  • Cosmetic enhancement for misshapen or discoloured teeth
  • Support for dental bridges
  • As prosthetic teeth on dental implants

Dental Bridges

Dental bridges are custom-designed prosthetics that are used to bridge the gaps left by missing teeth. They consist of one or more artificial teeth, called pontics, anchored securely to the neighbouring healthy teeth or dental implants. At Heathcote Dental Surgery, we offer bridges as a restorative dental option for the following reasons:

  • Replacement of one or more missing teeth
  • Restoration of proper chewing and speaking function
  • Prevention of neighbouring teeth from shifting
  • Improvement of smile aesthetics
  • Support for facial structure and jaw alignment

With proper care and maintenance, our dental crowns and bridges can last for many years, providing a durable and long-lasting dental restoration.

Types of Dental Crowns
and Bridges We Offer

At Heathcote Dental Surgery, we can customise dental crowns and bridges to suit the varied oral health and aesthetic requirements of our patients. Some of the materials we use for our crowns and bridges include

Porcelain

When it comes to crafting dental crowns and simple bridges, we mostly use porcelain as the material of choice due to its natural and aesthetically pleasing results, closely resembling the colour and translucency of natural teeth.

Glass Ionomer

Glass ionomer is a dental material that is gentle and well-suited for younger patients, but we also offer it for adults with specific dental needs.

Porcelain-fused-to-Metal (PFM)

For complex cases involving crowns, bridges, and crown work over Implants, we utilise Porcelain-fused-to-Metal (PFM) restorations, providing a harmonious blend of strength and natural aesthetics.

Zirconia

Zirconia crowns and bridges offer exceptional durability and biocompatibility, making them an excellent choice for prosthetic teeth that are supported by dental implants.
At Heathcote Dental Surgery, we believe that every patient deserves the highest quality of care. As such, our dentists carefully select the most suitable materials for your dental crowns and bridges, ensuring optimal aesthetics, functionality, and long-lasting results. Our state-of-the-art CEREC technology allows us to create your custom crowns and bridges in-house on the same day. This means you can get your permanent restoration without the need for multiple appointments or temporary restorations. With CEREC, we use digital impressions to design and fabricate your crown or bridge right here in our dental office, saving you time and bringing you the convenience of leaving our practice with a fully-functional smile.

What to Expect When Getting a Crown or Bridge

Dental crowns are individual restorations that cover a single damaged or weakened tooth, while dental bridges are used to replace one or more missing teeth by anchoring the artificial teeth (pontics) to the adjacent healthy teeth or dental implants. At Heathcote Dental Surgery, the process of getting a crown or bridge generally involves the following steps, but may vary depending on your specific dental needs and treatment plan:

  • Your journey begins with an initial consultation, where our dental team will carefully assess your oral health and discuss your concerns and treatment goals.
  • For dental crowns, the affected tooth is prepared by removing a small portion of its outer structure to create space for the crown. In the case of bridges, the adjacent healthy teeth may also require preparation to serve as anchor points for the pontics.
  • Digital impressions of the prepared tooth or teeth are taken to create a custom-made crown or bridge that perfectly fits your mouth. We use our in-house CEREC technology for same-day restorations.
  • For complex cases, your dental impressions are sent to a dental laboratory to craft your custom crown or bridge
  • A temporary restoration may be placed to protect the prepared teeth while your permanent crown or bridge is being fabricated.
  • Once your permanent crown or bridge is ready, you will return to our practice for its placement. Our dental team ensures a precise fit and checks the aesthetics and functionality before permanently bonding or cementing the restoration.
  • We provide you with complete aftercare instructions and schedule regular follow-up appointments to monitor the health and longevity of your new crown or bridge.
